Class 3 DT

Class 3 have been studying bridges with Mrs Smith in Design and Technology this week. They learnt about the different types of bridges and the conditions that require different types of bridges to be used. They undertook an in-depth study of one of the great English bridge builders and designers, Isambard Kingdom Brunel. To complete their topic and put their knowledge into action the children (working in pairs or small groups) were given the challenge of designing and creating a bridge using only paper straws and tape. The bridge was required to span a gap of 30cm and to hold as many 1cm plastic cubes as possible. The children really enjoyed making and testing their bridges and were competitive but still remained friendly throughout. The bridge that held the most cubes, over 100, was designed and built by Jesse and Tyler, whom you can see proudly showing off their construction in the gallery photographs.
