Eden Camp

Drum roll please.... We have some very exciting news in Class 2 and 3. We are planning a trip to Eden Camp (www.edencamp.co.uk) in November to further enhance our WW2 topic.  Our children will have the opportunity to step back in time and experience what it was like to live through WW2. We will discover many interesting facts including the roles of women in wartime, what The Blitz was and what happened to prisoners of war, and how they were treated.  We may even join the civilian home front!

On a very chilly Wednesday morning the children of Class 2 and Class 3 landed at Eden Camp.  Deployed into small groups, we stormed the huts in search of facts from World War 2. We were amazed and inspired by the stories of bravery and selflessness. Some of the huts gave us glimpses into the Women’s Land Army, prisoners of war, the blitz, the Bevin Boys down the mine, weapons, uniforms and life at home as the men went to war.  We took a break from all the hard-hitting facts in the music hall where we were able to sit and watch a puppet show, as seen in the era.

Returning to school, we were then able to record the information we had investigated, culminating in Class 2 creating a fact file and Class 3 reviewing and creating their individual Eden Camp pamphlet.
