Roman Day

The children had an amazing (and very hot!) Roman Day this week.  We wrapped action figures in toilet roll togas before making lolly pop stick catapults.  We loaded them with ammunition (grapes & marshmallows) and then attempted to knock down our Roman fortresses.  Whilst this was a lot of fun, we’re pretty sure the highlight of this activity was firing multiple mini-mallows at an unsuspecting Mrs Collinicus (Mrs Collins in today’s language)!

We followed this with our Roman banquet and some of the children’s goblets even managed to hold grape juice for a limited time!  In the afternoon, we held the Roman Games with the children taking turns to throw the Javelin, shoot at Archery and finally to run in a relay race.  Although it was still more civilised than any Roman Games may have been during this period, it did descend into chaos towards the end but a fun time was had by all!
