Netball

Over the past 4 weeks children in Classes 2 and 3 have completed their 'Introduction to Netball' programme which was provided by Sarah and Abby from Monk Fryston Netball Club. “We have been really impressed with the level of commitment of all the children who took part in the sessions with enthusiasm and a positive attitude. We hope the children continue to enjoy their netball journey as much as we have enjoyed introducing them to it! Yours in netball,” Sarah & Abby Class 2 and 3 have thoroughly enjoyed their netball coaching on a Wednesday afternoon. The children have learnt a variety of movement and throwing/catching skills. They have perfected the chest and bounce pass and have used different types of passes effectively in a game situation. Rules such as the 'footwork' rule in netball has been applied to their games too, meaning they were unable to 'travel' with the ball but they could pivot to enable the best body position for an accurate pass. A favourite game was 'Cops and Robbers' where the aim of the game was to 'steal' the balls from the opposition's part of the court. Lots of tactical problem solving and team work involved in this one!

Finally, the children were introduced to the 7 positions that make a netball team and we were really impressed to see them playing an excellent level of netball. We hope to use this experience to challenge other schools to a netball match at some point in the summer term. Thank you to our children for making Sarah and Abby welcome. Mrs Orton
