We were very pleased to welcome Andy and Luke from LA First Aid to Class 3 on Monday, 24th June, to deliver a Mini Medics First Aid course to the Year 5 and 6 children. During the full day the children learnt the skills to be able to deliver First Aid in an emergency and possibly even save a life! We thank Mrs Durham, Chair of the BPASA for booking Andy and Luke through her contacts at work, to deliver the course at a cost of £360 which the BPASA very generously funded.
The children started the day by examining the contents of a First Aid kit, continuing as the course progressed to learn vital skills around the subjects of resuscitation (CPR), wounds and bleeding, choking, allergies and asthma. All the children were fully engaged and absorbed in their learning throughout the course, taking their usual playtimes and lunchbreaks fully bandaged looking like ‘extras’ from Casualty.
Miss Hillerby said "It was wonderful to see the children getting involved in hands-on practice with the Resusci Annie dolls and bandages, which impressed Luke and Andy."
Mrs Durham received an email from Andy after the course which speaks volumes about our school to say “The day went really well. What a lovely school and fantastic teachers! We were made to feel very welcome and the children behaved impeccably!! It was a fun day with loads of practical! We enjoyed it and we were also thankful for the air-conditioned classroom!”
"I found it interesting because I liked learning about how to treat people and using the defibrillator" Laura commented.
The day was such a success that the BPASA would like to make this an annual event for all our Year 5 children, so when as parents you give generously to any BPASA event, please bear in mind that your donations towards and purchases at BPASA events, will go towards this and other worthwhile events and resources for your children in future.
