About Nursery

Welcome to our nursery year in Class 1!  Our teacher Mrs Al-najjar teaches us during the week. We are also very lucky to have Mrs Hall who also helps us in our learning.

In our nursery here at Barlow we learn through exploration and play.  We have indoor and outdoor areas which are set up and well-equipped to help us practise and develop our skills in all areas of learning.

We are a happy and friendly Nursery with a true family feel.  There is a strong emphasis on developing personal and social skills, ensuring that the children feel happy and secure and receptive to learning.  We value and treasure the uniqueness of each and every child.  Their emotional wellbeing and happiness is vital; all children learn best when they feel safe, secure and happy and this is our main priority.

We always aim to work closely with parents to get to know each child and understand their individual needs.  Parents and carers are always encouraged to come and talk to us about anything we may need to know …. A lost toy at home can make a big difference to a child’s day!

There are 7 areas of learning in the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS)

* Personal, Social and Emotional Development

* Communication and Language

* Physical Development

* Literacy

* Mathematics

* Understanding the World

* Expressive Arts and Design

During the session, the children ‘free-flow’ between the different areas of nursery and are supported in their learning by the staff in the environment.  Sometimes our staff will set up activities for the children to explore and encourage the children to take part (adult led activities).  Most of the time the children will select their own resources and play activities (child initiated activities).

Children can access areas of provision both inside and in the outside area.  Children are always encouraged to look after the resources and tidy up after themselves and to share and play collaboratively where appropriate.  There are group times during the session where children listen to stories, sing songs, have circle time and play simple number and phonic games.  They also benefit from story time before going home at the end of the session.

When your child joins our nursery we will begin to create their ‘Learning Journey’ on Tapestry.  This is a celebration of everything they achieve both at home and at school.  Parents are very much encouraged to engage by adding their own entries to Tapestry.  We add our written observations and photographs of the activities that they have taken part in at nursery which continues through their Reception year and is a wonderful record of your child’s learning to keep and treasure.
