Hindus

On the 4th November, Hindus around the world celebrated Diwali and after the children had shown a keen interest in some books that they had looked at, we chose to have a Diwali Day. The children took part in making beautiful rangoli patterns using coloured sand. They also created mehndi designs by using chalk on hand cut outs. The children listened carefully to the Hindu story of Rama and Sita and made pasta bracelets that symbolises how Sita left a trail of her jewellery so that she could be found by Rama after she was kidnapped by the evil Ravana. In the afternoon the children had the opportunity to help prepare a spinach and paneer curry that was enjoyed at the end of the day. We also invited Jayne and Mahon to come along to teach the children a stunning dance sequence using traditional Indian dance moves.  A lovely day was had by all. The year 1 children have also been retelling the story of Rama and Sita in their own words.
