The Queen

Our whole school community had a most memorable Jubilee celebration on Friday, 27th May.  The children and staff came dressed in red, white and blue and took part in activities and celebrations, lasting the whole day through, punctuated by a Jubilee Tea Party, lovingly prepared by Miss Godfrey-Davies that was literally ‘fit for a queen’!

After the success of our Sports Days earlier that week, it was again fantastic and truly heart-warming to be able to once again invite parents and carers to attend a lunch event.  We had a bumper number of parents and carers attending, so thank you again for supporting our children and joining in with part of their school day.  Despite the clouds looming and the wind getting up, we remained dry.

Tributes to Queen Elizabeth II

To mark the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee the children in each class created a collage silhouette of the Queen, based upon a theme, reflecting her 70 years of reign.

Class 1 - Being the Queen, Class 2, The Commonwealth, Class 3 Events and Changes

Class 1 have really enjoyed finding out about Queen Elizabeth II, her fabulous palaces and why we were celebrating the Jubilee. The children were extremely excited to get involved in making the Platinum Jubilee pudding (photograph below) and they certainly enjoyed the end results! This week the Reception children have been writing about their holiday news which was full of exciting events such as village pageants, sports day events and parties in their streets. The children were inspired by the Queen and Paddington Bear and have requested that we have a go at making our very own marmalade sandwiches, which I am sure will go down well.

To celebrate Her Majesty The Queen’s Platinum Jubilee of 70 years’ service, all primary school families across the country received a free commemorative book that celebrates the achievements of the United Kingdom and Commonwealth over the last 70 years.  The books came directly from the Department for Education and are a lovely keepsake for the children, so we hope that you will treasure them.
