Music

We are so lucky at our school to have been able to keep our piano when the playing of ‘live’ instruments in schools and the wider world is slowly being replaced by online audio platforms.  We are really pleased that some of our children have taken up piano and flute lessons with our NYCC tutors.  As you can see below, some of our Class 2 girls, Eva, Cora and Scarlett have been enjoying weekly piano lessons with Ms Jones and Cece has been taking flute lessons with Mr Batty.  All of the children are enjoying their lessons immensely as proved by their comments. Scarlett said “Ms Jones is really nice and if I get stuck she helps me.  I like playing the piano because it makes me happy if I am upset.” Eva said “I like playing the piano because I am a big fan of music and the lessons are a lot of fun.”

Some benefits of learning an instrument include:

  • Increased brain activity with new neuron paths formed
  • Noticeably increases memory and cognitive function
  • Has been shown to ward off dementia (for older persons!)
  • Improved hand-eye coordination, plus hand- foot coordination when using pedals
  • Improved self-esteem
  • Higher level of appreciation when listening to music
  • Improved hearing
  • Improved attention span

Ms Jones and Mr Batty would like to invite further pupils to join them for lessons, so apart from the piano lessons that Ms Jones teaches, Mr Batty can offer trumpet, trombone, clarinet and flute lessons.
