Blue Cross

On Thursday, 18th May, we were joined in school by two special visitors, Lois Crump and Emma Walton, who talked to all of our children from Year 1 to Year 6 about ‘Safety Around Dogs’ and ‘Responsible Dog Ownership’. Lois works for the Blue Cross charity who provide support and advice about all types of animals to whoever may need it, at any given point in time. Emma works as a Dog Warden for Selby District Council and teamed up with Lois to present the information sessions to the children, as well as answering any questions that the children had.  Lois said “Emma and I really enjoyed our visit and the children were all great, knowledgeable and took part with enthusiasm. It was encouraging to see that they had remembered details from our last visit.”

Laura said “I found the session really interesting, as I’ve just got a new puppy at my Grandparent’s house, so I learnt a lot of new things.”

Evie said “Lois and Emma explained a lot about how to act with dogs.  It was very interesting and topped up what we’d learnt from when they came to visit last year.”

Emma said “I really enjoyed speaking to the children around dog safety and responsible ownership, they were very enthusiastic to talk around the subject, engaging throughout the visit, talking about their own personal experiences, enabling them to relate to the issues and preparing them in future, as potential dog owners themselves.  In joining forces with the Blue Cross we show a great example of how a multi-agency approach is taken to tackle problems around animal welfare and how we work together to provide a safe and healthy environment.”
