Japan

We had a very exciting visit in Class 1 recently from Juri who is Hana's mum. She came to explain why the 7th of July (7/7) is an important date in the Japanese calendar - it is the Festival of Stars. We listened carefully to the mythological story of Orihime and Hikoboshi and watched a video showing us how Japanese children celebrate by writing wishes and making special decorations using origami paper that are placed on the bamboo tree. It was amazing to see Hana and her Mummy in their traditional dress, the kimono. Juri and Hana also showed their kimonos to Class 2 who have been working on designing their own kimonos in art! We have learnt so much about the Japanese culture and how our friend Hana celebrates her family traditions.
