keir Mather

We were lucky enough invite our local MP Keir Mather 'The Baby of the House' to join us in Class 3 on Thursday, 8th February and he accepted the invitation willingly! Whilst he was with us, Keir took a tour of the school to meet our children, then spoke to the children in Class 3 about why he became an MP, the best bits about his job and the challenges of the role. The children then put some very challenging questions to Keir, asking what he planned to do for our local area and what his impact had already been in the time he had been in office.

Finally, our School Ambassadors put forward a proposal to Keir, showing pictures they had taken of the road outside of school, highlighting the issues with speeding cars and parking. Our Ambassadors put forward that a 20mph zone would be helpful to be added to the road directly outside the school, a zebra crossing could be put in to help children cross safely, or speed bumps could be added in the village, especially near the school. Keir was very grateful for the ideas presented to him and impressed at how much work the children put into thinking about the issues that are very important to them.  He took the project away to action with the promise of a video to be sent to school, to show him discussing the children's ideas in Parliament.

'I think that the MP visit was very interesting and inspiring. I also now want to be an MP.' - Phoebe

'I can't believe that Keir is actually going to talk about our ideas in Parliament, I am so proud of our school for trying to make this change.' - Sophia
